The stroopwafel is a typical Dutch delicacy. Stroopwafels were for the first time made in 1784, at Gouda. They were eaten traditionally with a cup of coffee or tea. The stroopwafel was then put on the cup to make the waffle warm and as a result soft- today some people still do this! The stroopwafel is one of the best sold delicacies at Schiphol airport!
